Card Readers & Passcodes
A card reader allows you to tap your BC Services Card on it to read the chip embedded in your card.
Card readers use Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. NFC enables technology in close proximity to communicate with each other.
To use a card reader, you need a passcode. The passcode for your BC Services Card is similar to using a credit or debit card PIN.
There are two types of card readers - a USB card reader and an Android mobile device as a card reader.
Card Reader for Android
When you log in on any computer or device, you can choose to use an Android mobile device as a card reader.
USB Card Reader
When you log in on a computer with a USB port you can choose to use a USB card reader. The government-issued USB card reader can read the chip in a BC Services Card. It plugs into any USB port.
You can use a mobile card instead of using a card reader and passcode.
