Wood Processing Code of Practice (Proposed)

The Ministry of Environment is considering establishing a code of practice for the wood processing industry, in consultation with industry representatives, provincial ministries and other stakeholders. The code would be established under the Environmental Management Act and the Waste Discharge Regulation, and would replace individually issued air and effluent permits as the primary instrument for regulating specified discharges related to primary wood processing.

A policy intentions paper was posted for public review and comment on the ministry’s website (Wood Processing Policy Intentions Paper (PDF)) from September 25 through November 9, 2015. The policy intentions paper provided information regarding related legislation, and identified consultation issues for discussion to build understanding about the subject and provide a structure for comments and feedback.

The responses received through the consultation process have been reviewed by the ministry and were considered in developing the code of practice. Review the resulting policy update (PDF).
