Managing Site Remediation During COVID-19

Last updated: May 29, 2020

We are facing rapidly changing situations as we cope with the effects of COVID-19. Everyone in B.C. must follow the requirements and directives issued by the Provincial Health Officer (PHO) to protect public health. It is recognized these requirements could impact the day-to-day operations of regulated activities under the Environmental Management Act (EMA).

Requirements placed on responsible persons, operators and owners remain in effect and it is expected that all reasonable measures should be taken to ensure compliance with EMA Part 4 and the Contaminated Sites Regulation.

Now is a good time to carefully review requirements and develop plans and contingencies to ensure operations are maintained in accordance with requirements for the foreseeable future.

The ministry continues to have staff in place to maintain core business functions. All email inboxes and normal communication channels remain open and are being monitored regularly. Responsible Persons should contact the ministry through all the usual channels. Visit our Contact Us webpage for specific contact information.
