Remediating a Contaminated Site

There are several ways that potentially contaminated sites come to the attention of the Province:

  • A spill is reported
  • Someone complains about possible contamination
  • An application for rezoning, demolition, development or similar activity is submitted to a local government
  • A site was used for specific industrial or commercial activities
  • Notification is given that an independent cleanup is underway
  • A property-related decommissioning or bankruptcy occurs
  • An application is made for a contaminated site service
  • A copy of a notification of contaminant migration is sent to the province
