Remediating a Contaminated Site
There are several ways that potentially contaminated sites come to the attention of the Province:
- A spill is reported
- Someone complains about possible contamination
- An application for rezoning, demolition, development or similar activity is submitted to a local government
- A site was used for specific industrial or commercial activities
- Notification is given that an independent cleanup is underway
- A property-related decommissioning or bankruptcy occurs
- An application is made for a contaminated site service
- A copy of a notification of contaminant migration is sent to the province
