Federal Employment Standards Factsheet
Most jobs in B.C. are covered under provincial labour laws. There are certain exceptions, which include banks, telecommunications, inter-provincial transportation and marine transportation.
The Canada Labour Code establishes minimum requirements which must be followed by employers under federal jurisdiction. The Code is administered by the Labour Program of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) through regional and district offices throughout Canada (Service Canada). The Canada Labour Code covers industrial relations, employment standards, and occupational health and safety.
