Renewing a Licence

Your licence has an expiry date. Two months before the date the Registrar will advise you by email that it is time to renew your licence. This reminder is a courtesy and will be sent only if you have provided the Registrar with a current (non-business) email address. You must submit the Application for a Renewal of Security Worker Licence before your licence expires otherwise you must apply as if it were a new licence and you will have to pay the new licence fee which is higher than the renewal fee.

Applications are processed in the order they are received. You should submit your renewal application at least 60 days before your licence expires.

Please note: A Security Worker Under Supervision Licence expires 90 days after it is issued and cannot be renewed. If you have this type of licence and it is about to expire, you should apply for a full security guard licence if you have met all the requirements.

Replacing a Licence

You must carry your licence whenever you are providing security services.

If your licence is lost or stolen, you must submit a Request for Replacement of Current Security Worker Licence form to the Registrar immediately. A reprinting fee will be charged. If you provide an email address, the Registrar can send you an electronic copy of your licence until your replacement arrives by mail. Your request for a replacement must be received and processed before an electronic copy can be emailed. Your replacement licence will have the same expiry date as your original licence.

Updating a Licence (or the Registrar's Records)

You must notify the Registrar within 14 days of a change of address, a criminal charge or a criminal conviction. You must also let the Registrar know of any change to your legal name, contact information, status as a peace officer or mental health condition.

When updating your records you can also provide a new photo (which you must do every five years) and add or change the type of licence you have. To update your licence or the Registrar’s records, submit a Reporting an Update to Current Security Worker Licence form. Updates that require a new licence to be issued cost $20.
