Renewing, Replacing or Updating a Security Industry Business Licence

Renewing a Licence

Your licence has an expiry date. Two months before the date, the Registrar will advise you by email that it is time to renew your licence. This reminder is a courtesy and will only be sent if a current email address has been provided. You must submit a licence renewal form before your licence expires otherwise you will not be permitted to operate a security services business. If you allow your licence to expire you will also have to apply for a new licence and pay the new licence fee which is higher than the renewal fee. You should submit your renewal application at least 30 days before your licence expires.

You may also be held liable for a violation ticket and fine if you conduct your business with an expired licence.

Use the Application for a Renewal of a Security Business Licence – With Changes (PDF) if you have changes to report to the Registrar.

Use the Application for a Renewal of a Security Business Licence – No Changes (PDF) if you have no changes to report.

Replacing a Licence

Under the Security Services Act, your head office and branch offices must post your current security business licence in a place where it can be easily seen by the public.

If your licence is lost or stolen, you must submit a Request for Replacement of Current Security Business Licence (PDF) to the Registrar immediately. A reprinting fee will be charged. If you provide an email address, the Registrar can send you an electronic copy of your licence until your replacement arrives by mail. Your replacement request must be received and processed before an electronic copy can be emailed. Your replacement licence will have the same expiry date as your original licence.
