Playing Detectives: Using the Early Success Screen to Identify Areas of Need in Students
French Immersion, District-level initiative, Vancouver Island Region, 2016-2017
Primary teachers worked on district's early success screen to incorporate French. Primary immersion teachers were trained to work with screen in a consistent manner to better detect areas of need with students. Primary immersion teachers then teamed to work on providing more targeted wrap around supports.
Goal - to decrease the number of students leaving the program due to learning needs in Elementary. While we made huge gains and found success this is an area we need to continue working on Universal Design for Learning (UDL)/inclusive education strategies through French Language lens.
