Deep Sea Learning: An Inquiry Open House

French Immersion, School-level initiative Metro Vancouver Region, 2016-2017

École Pauline Johnson grade 6 and 7 students explored the theme of "Seeing the Sea" and worked on inquiry projects intended to protect and/or enhance the environment. The students prepared models, completed research, engaged in creative expression, wrote papers, and hosted an "open house" event for families where they shared their learning - all in French (with some translation for guests).

Both curricular outcomes (Science) and core competencies (personal and social responsibility, communication, critical and creative thinking)  were clearly demonstrated and deep learning was evident. Students were able to engage in this work in an immersion setting.
