Teaching the Teachers: Reading Recovery Certification in French

Two French Immersion teachers were trained in the Intervention préventive en lecture-écriture (Reading Recovery) program to assist struggling readers at the grade one level. Reading Recovery teacher trainers delivered in-depth training and monitored the French Immersion teachers, including direct observations working with students. The French Immersion teachers are now poised to deliver the Reading Recovery program to students in French.
The two French Immersion teachers were successful in completing the training. At the same time students' reading levels improved to be on par with other students. The knowledge gained by the two French Immersion teachers has impacted their understanding and abilities as effective language teachers and will assist future students in developing effective language abilities.
