Teacher Book Club: Assessment, Best Practices, and Inclusion
French Immersion, Teacher Professional Development, District-level initiative, Metro Vancouver Region, 2017-2018
A professional development series on assessment and best practices for teachers grades 4-8 was offered. The book club members, for teachers grades 4-8, based their discussions on the books series Savoir ce qui est important (Gregory, Cameron & Davies 2011) throughout the year.
In addition, with Isabelle Cote, the secondary teachers met to discuss and learn about best practices in inclusion in French Immersion for grades 9-12 students. The teachers used the book Accès au succès : Faciliter l’inclusion pour les apprenants de langues (Arnett et Bourgoin, 2018) to help guide their learning.
Both book clubs have expressed an interest in continuing the studies in 2018-2019 and there is interest in expanding the series to other teachers.
