Supporting our Vulnerable Students: A Literacy Intervention Program

We hired a CEA (Educational Assistant) who worked under the supervision of the Learning Resource Teacher (LRT). A Literacy Intervention Program was designed and support was given to our vulnerable students who were struggling with reading. This was intensive support four days a week. Students were given explicit instruction on reading strategies and practice with these strategies. Home support was also an important part of this program as families were provided extra practice time at home with materials supplied by the CEA. 


Student confidence and success with reading increased with 75% of the students who were involved reading at grade level by the end of their 12 week session.
