Recognized Schools Outside B.C.

A two-year diploma in early childhood education from an accredited institution in another province or territory does not necessarily meet B.C. requirements for certification as an early childhood educator or special needs educator.

Transfer certification between provinces: Some provinces have signed agreements that allow certifications to be transferable, depending on:

  • Where a person was certified, registered or licensed as an early childhood educator
  • The level of certification received

Apply for certification in B.C.: Education or training from some institutions can be used to apply for B.C. certification. Applicants will need to provide official transcripts directly from their institution along with proof of practicum (for infant and toddler certification).
