Issue 19-67 Manufacturing Sales
April 18, 2019
Manufacturing sales in B.C. dipped 1.4% (seasonally adjusted) in February. Sales of manufactured food products were higher for the second straight month (+1.1%) and sales of paper products jumped 19.1%, each helping to drive total receipts for non-durables higher (+5.9%). Meanwhile, widespread sales declines including notable decreases in the transportation (-29.4%), wood (-7.3%) and machinery (-7.1%) sectors, resulted in a 6.5% drop in the value of durable goods shipped.
Nationally, sales inched down (-0.2%) to $56.6 billion. Slowed sales in the motor vehicle assembly and wood products industries were the main reasons for the decrease in total Canadian shipments.
