B.C. businesses are increasing their use of employment services. The province’s employment services industry group realized total operating revenues of $1.0 billion in 2017, a substantial boost (+11.9%) over 2016.
Nationally, employment services saw revenue climb a more moderate 6.8% in 2017. Temporary staffing services generated 51% of revenue from sales of goods and services, followed by permanent placements and contract staffing services (40%). Canadian businesses are the main clients for employment services, comprising 87% of total sales. B.C. accounted for seven percent of national sales in 2017, with larger shares of revenue reported by businesses in Ontario (58%), Alberta (16%) and Quebec (15%).
The employment service industry group includes employment placement agencies and executive search services, temporary help services, and professional employer organizations.
