Issue 19-26 Manufacturing Sales

February 15, 2019

Manufacturing sales in B.C. slipped 3.1% (seasonally adjusted) in December. Sales of manufactured food (-4.0%) and paper (-10.4%) products were notably lower, driving total receipts for non-durables down 4.7%. Meanwhile, despite strength in several sectors, sales decreases, including substantive declines for transportation equipment (-10.0%) and wood products (-6.1%), resulted in a 2.1% dip in the value of durable goods shipped.

Nationally, sales decreased (-1.3% to $56.4 billion) for a third consecutive month. Sales of petroleum and coal products fell 10.4%, one of the main reasons for the decline in total Canadian shipments.
