Issue 19-196 Manufacturing Sales

December 18, 2019

Manufacturing sales in B.C. dipped 3.6% (seasonally adjusted) in October. Sales of manufactured paper products were down for the third straight month (-13.0%), helping to drive total receipts for non-durables 7.4% lower. Among durable goods (-0.4%), decreased sales by the fabricated metal (-3.4%), wood (-3.5%) and transportation (-7.9%) industries were among those acting to offset sales boosts from non-metallic mineral (+9.3%) and primary metal (+8.3%) producers.

Nationally, sales declined for a second consecutive month (-0.7%, to $57.1 billion). Sales of fabricated metal products dipped 8.2%, one of the main reasons for the decrease in total Canadian shipments.
