In 2018, there were approximately 5,800 child and youth victims (aged 17 and younger) of police-reported violence in British Columbia. Of these victims, 59% were female and 41% were male. Nearly a third (30%) of child and youth victims of police-reported violence in the province were victimized by a family member.
There were approximately 1,700 senior victims (aged 65 and older) of police-reported violence in B.C. in 2018, 40% of whom were female and 60% male. More than one-third (34%) of senior victims of reported violence were victimized by a family member such as a child, spouse, sibling or other family member.
