Issue 19-187 Weekly Average Earnings

Average weekly earnings of payroll employees in British Columbia climbed $5.95 (+0.6%) to $1,009.30 (seasonally adjusted) in September. Earnings were up in both the goods (+0.9%) and services (+0.6%) sectors. At the industrial level, utilities (+4.0%) and mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (+4.1%) saw the biggest boosts, while average earnings were down most notably for workers in management of companies and enterprises (-4.7%) finance and insurance (-3.4%) and forestry, logging and support (-3.4%). Compared with a year earlier, average weekly earnings in B.C. were up 3.4%.
Nationally, average weekly earnings stood at $1,042.09, an increase of $9.31 (+0.9%) from August.
