Issue 19-185 Wholesale Sales
November 25, 2019
Wholesale sales in the province rose 2.1% (seasonally adjusted) in September, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase. Strong sales in the food, beverage and tobacco (+5.4%) and the motor vehicle and motor vehicle parts and accessories (+6.3%) subsectors explained much of the climb.
Nationally, wholesalers saw a moderate 1.0% increase in sales, with gains recorded in all provinces, except Manitoba (-1.4%). Sales boosts were strongest in Newfoundland and Labrador (+6.0%), and Saskatchewan (+2.9%), but in dollar terms, Quebec (+2.5%) and B.C. saw the most substantial increases in wholesale sales in September.
