Issue 19-181 Manufacturing Sales

November 22, 2019

Manufacturing sales in B.C. bucked the national trend in September, climbing 3.7% (seasonally adjusted). Sales of manufactured food products (+2.4%) rebounded from a lacklustre August (-2.8%), helping to drive total receipts for non-durables 7.3% higher. Meanwhile, sales boosts in several large sectors, including machinery (+8.5%), transportation (+6.8%) and wood (+3.5%), resulted in a 0.9% jump in the value of durable goods shipped.

Nationally, sales slipped (-0.2%) to $57.4 billion. B.C., New Brunswick (+9.9%) and Newfoundland and Labrador (+3.1%) were the only provinces to record sales increases in September.
