Issue 19-173 Average Weekly Earnings

Average weekly earnings of payroll employees in British Columbia climbed $6.32 (+0.6%) to $1,001.68 (seasonally adjusted) in August. At the industrial level, earnings were up most notably in educational services (+4.2%), management of companies and enterprises (+4.2%) and manufacturing (+3.4%) but were off considerably in mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction (-5.4%), information and cultural industries (-4.9%) and utilities (-4.7%). Compared with a year earlier, average weekly earnings in B.C. were 2.2% higher.
Nationally, average weekly earnings stood at $1,035.21, an increase of $6.09 (+0.6%) from July.
