Issue 19-164 Manufacturing Sales
October 18, 2019
Manufacturing sales in B.C. declined 1.4% (seasonally adjusted) in August. Sales of manufactured food (-1.6%) and paper (-1.8%) products were down, helping to drive total receipts for non-durables 3.9% lower. Meanwhile, hefty sales boosts of transportation (+39.7%) primary metal (+10.7%) and fabricated metal (+4.0%) products moderated declines among other large sectors, resulting in a slight (+0.7%) increase in the value of durable goods shipped.
Nationally, sales climbed 0.8% to reach $57.6 billion in August. Sales of transportation equipment were up 2.8%, one of the main reasons for the increase in total Canadian shipments.
