There were 378 bankruptcies filed by consumers in British Columbia in July, a 26.8% increase from the same month of 2018. Meanwhile, the number of business bankruptcies was notably higher, climbing 166.7% to 16.

Insolvency numbers in other provinces showed similar volatility in July. The total amount of bankruptcies filed in nationwide was up 3.8% from July of last year, as both consumer (+2.6%) and business (+31.6%) numbers increased.
