Issue 18-89 Wholesale Sales

Sales by wholesalers (seasonally adjusted) in British Columbia went down in March to reach $6.5 billion, a 0.1% decrease compared to the previous month. The monthly decrease was led by motor vehicle and parts (‑6.0%) and food, beverage and tobacco (-2.3%) wholesales. Farm product wholesales saw the largest increase in the month (+5.1%).

Nationally, the value of sales by wholesalers increased (+1.1%) in March compared to the previous month. Four of the seven industry subsectors and two provinces reported higher sales for the month. Among provinces, Ontario (+2.5%) and Saskatchewan (+2.5%) saw the only sales increases in March. Meanwhile Prince Edward Island (-4.9%) and Newfoundland and Labrador (-5.0%) saw the largest declines in wholesale trade for the month.
