B.C. manufacturing sales (seasonally adjusted) went up by 4.0% in March compared to February, led by an increase in wood product manufacturing (+11.2%). Notable gains were also observed in non-metallic mineral product (+14.8%) and paper (+5.7%) manufacturing.
Nationally, sales of manufactured goods increased by 1.4% in March compared to the previous month. Gains in manufacturing sales in Quebec (+2.9%) and British Columbia (+4.0%) were the main contributors to the increase.
Manufacturing sales were up in seven of the provinces, with the largest provincial increases observed in Newfoundland and Labrador (+10.0%) and Saskatchewan (+5.6%). Meanwhile, Prince Edward Island (-0.4%), Manitoba (-0.2%) and Nova Scotia (-0.1%) saw declines in the month.
