Issue 18-74 Food Services and Drinking Places

Revenues generated in British Columbia’s food service and drinking places industry went up by 1.0% (seasonally adjusted) in February. Sales were higher in full-service restaurants and drinking places, while limited-service eating places and special food services saw declines in the month.
Nationally, sales in food services and drinking places also grew (+0.7%) in February compared to January. The increase was led by full-service restaurants (+1.5%) and drinking places (+1.8%) sales. Limited-service eating places saw a small decline (-0.1%) in the month.
Sales increased in eight provinces in February, with the largest increases in Prince Edward Island (+2.0%) and Quebec (+1.7%). Decreases occurred in Alberta (-1.2%) and Manitoba (-0.3%).
