Issue 18-73 Wholesale Sales

Sales by wholesalers (seasonally adjusted) in British Columbia went down in February to reach $6.6 billion, a 0.3% decrease compared to the previous month. The monthly decrease was led by miscellaneous (-8.1%) and building material and supplies (-2.0%) wholesales. Machinery, equipment and supplies wholesales saw the largest increase in the month (+4.6%).

Nationally, the value of sales by wholesalers fell (-0.8%) in February compared to the previous month. Four of the seven industry subsectors and seven provinces reported lower sales for the month. Among provinces, Manitoba (-3.7%) and Saskatchewan (-2.6%) saw the largest percentage decreases in February. Meanwhile Prince Edward Island (+8.3%) and Nova Scotia (+4.0%) saw the largest gains in wholesale trade for the month.
