B.C. manufacturing sales (seasonally adjusted) went down by 1.3% in February compared to January, led by decreases in electrical equipment, appliance and component (-28.6%) and transportation equipment (‑12.4%) manufacturing. Notable gains were observed in fabricated metal product (+4.7%), machinery (+3.4%) and wood product (+2.5%) manufacturing.
Nationally, sales of manufactured goods increased by 1.9% in February compared to the previous month. Gains in manufacturing sales in Ontario (+3.0%) and Quebec (+2.2%) were the main contributors to the increase.
Manufacturing sales were down in four of the provinces, with the largest provincial decrease observed in Manitoba (‑1.9%). Meanwhile, Prince Edward Island (+17.2%) and Nova Scotia (+6.5%) grew at the fastest pace among provinces.
