Issue 18-63 Tourism Room Revenues
March 29, 2018
For British Columbia, room revenues rose during the month of January. On a year-over-year basis, Vancouver, Coast and Mountains (+93.4%), Thompson/Okanagan (+60.9%), The Islands (+53.7%), Northern B.C. (+33.5%), and B.C. Rockies (+30.0%) tourism regions all reported large increases in revenues. Room revenue from the previous January was unseasonably low for all regions.
The room revenue estimates are based on the municipal and regional district tax (MRDT) of participating communities. Participation in the MRDT is optional and as such, not all communities are included and the regional totals are summations of participating communities only. Therefore, the room revenue figures should be analysed with this in mind.
