Issue 18-213 Manufacturing Sale

December 19, 2018

Manufacturing sales in B.C. inched down 0.9% (seasonally adjusted) in October. Sales of manufactured wood products declined for a fourth straight month (-7.2%), helping to drive total receipts for durables 2.7% lower. On the other hand, widespread sales boosts, including notable increases in the food (+2.0%), beverage (+1.3%) and chemical (+1.6%) sectors, resulted in a 1.7% jump in the value of non-durable goods shipped.

Nationally, sales were relatively flat (-0.1% to $58.2 billion), ending a five-month streak of increases. Declining sales of wood and primary metal products offset increases in the food and machinery industries.
