Issue 18-107 Wholesale Sales

Sales by wholesalers (seasonally adjusted) in British Columbia went up in April to reach $6.6 billion, a 1.6% increase compared to the previous month. The monthly increase was led by building material and supplies merchant wholesales (+8.0%). Machinery, equipment and supplies merchant wholesalers (-8.6%) saw the largest decline in the month.

Nationally, the value of sales by wholesalers increased slightly (+0.1%) in April compared to the previous month. Three of the seven industry subsectors and seven provinces reported higher sales for the month. Among provinces, Prince Edward Island (+10.9%) and Newfoundland and Labrador (+2.9%) saw the largest sales increases in April. Meanwhile Manitoba (-1.0%) and Ontario (-0.7%) saw the largest declines in wholesale trade for the month.
