Issue 18-02: Tourism Room Revenues
January 3, 2018
For most of British Columbia, room revenues rose during the month of October. On a year-over-year basis, B.C. Rockies (+17.6%), Vancouver, Coast and Mountains (+11.4%), The Islands (+9.2%), and Northern B.C. (+7.0%) tourism regions all reported increases in revenues, while the Thompson/Okanagan (‑0.6%) tourism region saw a slight decrease in room revenue.
The room revenue estimates are based on the municipal and regional district tax (MRDT) of participating communities. Participation in the MRDT is optional and as such, not all communities are included and the regional totals are summations of participating communities only. Therefore, the room revenue figures should be analysed with this in mind.
