Issue 17-90: Housing Starts

Housing starts in B.C.’s urban centres (population 10,000 and over) climbed 19.7% (seasonally adjusted at annual rates) in July, bouncing back from a 16.8% decline in June.

Nationally, the number of urban starts rose 5.5% in July. In addition to B.C., there was a substantial increase in housing starts in Atlantic Canada (+36.6%), as well as more modest growth in Ontario (+1.1%) and the Prairie Provinces (+1.8%). However, starts in Quebec edged down 0.6%.
