Issue 17-76: Bankruptcies

July 20, 2017

The number of bankruptcies registered by B.C. consumers fell 16.6% in April, compared to the same month a year earlier. Business bankruptcies in the province dropped 9.1% in the same period, although that amounted to only one less bankruptcy.

Nationally, there was a 3.2% drop in business bankruptcies, with just four industries responsible for the bulk of the decline: Construction; retail trade; professional, scientific and technical services; and accommodation and food services. Consumer bankruptcies were also lower for Canada as a whole, down 16.4%.
