The area in B.C. dedicated to growing greenhouse products climbed notably in 2016 (+4.0%), expanding to 58 million square feet. Sales of greenhouse products grown in the province exceeded $659 million last year, up from $657 million in 2015. B.C.’s greenhouse industry is the second biggest in the country, after Ontario, where sales reached nearly $1.7 billion in 2016. The national total was $2.9 billion.

Ornamental flowers and plants accounted for more than half of total revenues in B.C., with sales adding to $344 million in 2015. Sales by B.C. producers of greenhouse fruits and vegetables (primarily tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce and peppers) were valued at $316 million.
