Receipts at the province’s food services and drinking places ended the year on a high note, climbing 0.6% (seasonally adjusted) in December. Quebec (+0.8%) was the only other province to see sales increase, such that nationally, establishments took in less revenue than in November (-0.2%).
2016 Annual Sales, Food Services and Drinking Places
Sales at B.C.’s food services and drinking places jumped 10.0% during 2016, the largest increase in the country. Receipts at full-service restaurants, which represent the largest share of provincial sales, surged 11.5%, but limited-service eating places (+9.7%), special food services (+6.0%) and drinking places (+6.1%) also fared well. Canadian receipts were up 6.3% in 2016, with all 10 provinces experiencing growth.
