The number of bankruptcies registered by B.C. consumers fell 24.0% in July, compared to the same month in 2016. There was one additional business bankruptcy in that period, which translates to a 10.0% increase.
Nationally, there was a 9.0% drop in consumer bankruptcies from July 2016 to July 2017, while business bankruptcies remained the same, at 197. There were small increases in the number of bankruptcies across several industries; however, they were offset mainly by a 38.1% drop in bankruptcies in the construction industry.
