Issue 17-110: Wholesale Sales

Sales by wholesalers in British Columbia rose for the third consecutive month in July to reach $6.6 billion, a 3.4% increase compared to the previous month. The rise was led by higher sales in building material and supplies (+9.2%), and food, beverage and tobacco (+5.1%) wholesales. Farm product merchant wholesalers (‑2.6%) saw the largest decline for the month. The increase in wholesale sales in British Columbia was third largest among provinces, behind Saskatchewan (+9.9%) and Alberta (+4.3%).
Nationally, the value of sales by wholesalers went up by 1.5% in July compared to the previous month. The increase was widespread, with five of the seven industry subsectors and seven provinces reporting positive growth for the month.
