Issue 16-86: Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI)
April 29, 2016
Canadian manufacturers’ prices declined 2.1% in March compared to the same month in 2015. Energy and petroleum products (-18.8%) continued to have the strongest influence on the Industrial Products Price Index (IPPI), while increases in motorized and recreational vehicles (+3.0%) and many other industries offset much of the deflation. The IPPI excluding energy and petroleum product prices would have been 111.3, 0.5% higher than in March of last year.
Prices for raw materials were down 9.7% over March 2015, driven by decreased prices for crude energy (-18.6%) and animal (-5.5%) products.
