Issue 16-47: Visitor Entries
March 17, 2016
Visitor entries to Canada via B.C. rose 1.6% (seasonally adjusted) in January, on the heels of a similar increase in December (+2.0%). U.S. entries were up 1.3% and the number of travellers from overseas also climbed (+2.5%). The boost in tourism from overseas was driven mostly by an increase in the number of travellers from Asia (+1.9%), Europe (+2.9%) and Oceania (+3.8%).
Conversely, the number of Canadians returning from abroad through B.C. (-2.5%) dipped for the third straight month, as travel from the U.S. (-1.9%) and other countries (-5.9%) decreased in January.
