Issue 16-39: Housing Starts

The number of housing starts in the province’s urban areas (population of 100,000+) continued to seesaw, shooting up 60.5% (seasonally adjusted) in February, after dipping (-5.6%) in the previous month. Canadian starts jumped 30.9%, as some provinces posted increases that were well into the double digits. Starts were 33.5% higher in Ontario and up 27.6% in Quebec. Meanwhile, Alberta (-3.1%), Manitoba (-9.8%) and most of Atlantic Canada had fewer housing starts last month than in January.
