Total retail sales in British Columbia stalled (-0.0% seasonally adjusted) in August after showing strength (+0.8%) in the previous month.
Nationally, retail sales inched down 0.1%, due mostly to lower sales at motor vehicle and parts dealers (-0.5%) and general merchandise stores (-0.9%). Six provinces registered decreases in August, most notably in P.E.I. (-1.4%) and Ontario (-0.7%).
