Issue 16-18: Industrial Product Price Index
February 1, 2016
Canadian manufacturers’ prices were 1.1% higher in December 2015 than in the same month of 2014. Motorized and recreational vehicles continued to have a strong influence on the 12-month change, climbing 12.6%. Prices for electrical, electronic, audiovisual, and telecommunication (+6.8%) and fruit, vegetables, feed and other food (+1.4%) products were also up, but falling prices in the energy and petroleum sector (-14.3%) tempered the overall increase substantively. Excluding energy and petroleum products, the Industrial Product Price Index would have climbed 3.7% instead of just 1.1%.
