Issue 16-173: Housing Starts

Total housing starts in British Columbia’s urban areas (population of 10,000+) dipped 10.8% (seasonally adjusted at annual rates) in August, following a decrease of 21.7% in the previous month. Starts rose 18.2% for semi-detached (+23.0%) homes, but starts for apartment (-5.5%), single-detached (-9.1%) and row (-36.8%) housing fell.
Nationally, housing starts were down 11.8%, with five provinces recording decreases.
