Issue 16-166: GDP by Industry

Canadian real GDP by industry at basic prices (seasonally adjusted) advanced 0.6% in June offsetting the 0.6% decline in May.
The goods-producing industries increased 1.6% in June. Mining, quarrying & oil and gas extraction (+3.6%), utilities (+3.1%) and manufacturing (+1.8%) were major contributors to the growth of real GDP. Construction (-0.4%) and agriculture, forestry, fishing & hunting (-0.2%) declined in June.
The service-producing industries increased 0.2% in June. Gains in the public sector* (+0.2%), transportation & warehousing (+0.9%), and finance & insurance (+0.5%) were offset by declines in retail trade (-0.4%), professional, scientific & technical services (-0.1%) and management of companies & enterprises (-0.2%).
*The public sector includes education, health and public administration.
