Issue 16-149: Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI)
July 29, 2016
Canadian manufacturers’ prices were 0.8% lower this June than in the same month last year. Falling prices for energy and petroleum products (-11.0%), chemicals (-4.0%) and primary ferrous (-5.9%) and non-ferrous (-1.2%) metals offset increases in nearly every other commodity group. Moderating the year-over-year decrease in the Industrial Product Price Index (IPPI) were higher prices for motorized and recreational vehicles (+2.4%). Excluding the price of energy and petroleum products, the IPPI rose 0.8% in June.
Meanwhile, the Raw Materials Price Index was up 1.8% in June, building on a 7.0% boost recorded in May. Four of the six major commodity groups saw prices increase.
