Issue 16-11: Employment Insurance

There were 54,030 British Columbians receiving regular employment insurance (EI) benefits in November, 1.0% fewer (seasonally adjusted) than the previous month. Among B.C.’s metropolitan areas, Abbotsford-Mission (-6.2%), Victoria (-2.0%) and Vancouver (-1.1%) recorded declines, while the number of beneficiaries in Kelowna was up (+1.4%). All other provinces, with the exception of Ontario (-0.7%) and New Brunswick (-1.2%), recorded an increase in the number of recipients. Nationally, there were 0.6% more EI beneficiaries in November than in October.
