Medical Services Plan (MSP) Premium Changes
Effective January 1, 2018, no premiums for children under the age of 19 or for overage dependants (19 -24 years old) who are attending post-secondary school full time will continue. MSP premium rates have been reduced by 50% and will be determined by the number of adults. Monthly MSP premiums will be $37.50/month for the employee and if applicable $75/month for an employee and their spouse. Dependant children will still be on the employee’s account therefore if adding or removing children from coverage, a MSP form will still need to be completed. MSP is paid by the employer and is a taxable benefit.
New Plan Design for the Flexible Benefit Program
A new design is being introduced for the Plan year starting January 1, 2017. A new design was created to simplify the choices, making the program easier to understand. Your choices for the extended health and dental plans have changed, but there are no changes to the Life Insurance plans or the Health Spending Account. You now have four simple options for both your extended health and dental plans. Emergency medical travel insurance for personal travel was added to enhance the existing coverage proved for business travel. Optional Family Funeral Benefit Premium Increase
Effective January 1, 2017, monthly premiums for Optional Family Funeral Benefit will increase from $2.15 to $2.21.
Employee Basic Life Insurance - Premium Increase
Effective Jan 1, 2016, monthly premiums for the employee basic life insurance will increase from $0.17 to $0.18 per $1,000 of insurance. The employer will continue to pay premiums for the first $80,000 of insurance. Cost and flex credits have been adjusted accordingly.
