Short Term Sick Leave for Employees

If you're medically unable to be at work and need time to recuperate, here’s what you need to do: 

• Let us know right away. Let your supervisor know about your limitations and restrictions as well as the length of your recovery. Keep them up-to-date on progress. Discuss options for modifying your duties and/or hours when able to work in some capacity.
• Record your days off in the STIIP module in Time On Line or submit a leave management transaction. Ask your supervisor to do this on your behalf if necessary.
• Stay in touch. Keep the lines of communication open and let your supervisor know if there’s anything job-related impacting your health.

In some cases, you may be contacted by an occupational health nurse or an early intervention and return-to-work specialist who can offer assistance with developing a rehabilitation and return-to-work plan that will best match your recovery needs. A doctor’s certificate may also be requested. 

Pay & Benefits

Those eligible for sick leave will receive a percentage of their salary with uninterrupted benefits.  More >>

Long Term Illness or Injury

Consider applying for Long Term Disability benefits if you’ve been on short term leave for 3 months and a return to work doesn’t seem likely before finishing 6 months of leave. This will prevent delays in getting paid.
